Although this is a tiny specimen, a small thumbnail (more a small fingernail) or large micromount, it is a superb example of the rare silver-antimony sulphosalt Stephanite. The basic definition of a sulphosalt is that it contains sulphur and a metal, like a sulphide, but also a semi-metal, in this case, antimony. Ex. matrix, the Stephanite forms well developed and well-defined crystals to about 9 mm tall with a metallic black lustre. A good example in which the crystallography of Stephanite can be examined under low magnification and from Alberoda in Saxony, Germany.
