This is a large and significant cluster of this rare manganese sulfide from Uchucchacua, Peru. There are at least a dozen Alabandite crystals on this piece ranging from 1.0 to 3.0 cm and there are two major 2.0 cm crystals, both of which are twinned, along with several of the other smaller crystals. The Alabandite crystals that are not twinned are distinctly cubo-octahedral in habit. The Alabandites are iron-black with a subdued metallic luster and all of them are well-formed. Although the Alabandites are in clusters, the crystals are still very distinct with very evident forms and twin planes. Some whitish pink Rhodochrosite is in association that adds contrast. It sits nicely on its own for display. From a "miracle find" for the species, completely unanticipated and surprising, that came out circa 2012 from this old silver mine.
