This Rhodochrosite forms a 3-dimensional, translucent, thick mass of jelly-like, strawberry-red color around an opaque pink Rhodochrosite core. It is botryoidal at first glance, but actually it is crystallized, just with crystals in such a flattened AND WEIRD habit so that the glistening terminations blend together seamlessly at first glance from afar. Up close, you see the crystal faces. The piece has a sublime, overall silky shimmering luster that is difficult to describe. It is a very unusual style, characteristic of early finds at the N'Chwaning I Mine prior to 1980, and the major finds of other habits at the other nearby N'Chwaning mines are different. A gorgeous small cabinet piece of this style. Ex. William Logan collection (X39-8) (probably one of the 2 or 3 largest collections of locality rhodochrosites built up).
