Harmotome (Type Locality)
This is a remarkably large cabinet sized plate, double-sided no less, of the rare zeolite Harmotome. There are hundreds of crystals on the presentation side, with all being lustrous and a delicate pink color. Some even having rudimentary cyclic twinning. Many reach up to .5 cm. St Andreasberg is the type locality for the species, and this specimen surely dates back to the 1800s. An outstanding old specimen showing classic twinning of the harmotome crystals as originally described for the species by the old German mineralogists, and shown in very old mineral prints. These specimens are admittedly somewhat exotic in terms of appreciation to non-German specialists, but are none the less desirable for the species because of the unusually well-pronounced twinning. Purchased in Germany from the famous dealer Maucher in 1973, and before him ex Krantz. Featured in the book Collecting Classics: The Legacy of Kay Robertson (Mineralogical Record, May 2025) on page 64.
