Grossular Garnet

This Grossular Garnet piece consists of a multitude of lustrous, scintillating, peach-pink crystals on a microcrystalline Diopside matrix from the celebrated Jeffrey Mine in Quebec, Canada. The delicate, pale pink-peach Garnet crystals are juxtaposed yet still have good isolation and every one of them is a gem! There are dozens of crystals on this piece that just sparkle in every orientation from all of the dodecahedral faces. The color here is a little more peachy than the usual which makes it stand out and they look fantastic on pale pistachio green, scintillating Diopside that covers the matrix shard. The Diopside crystals are less than a millimeter, but are distinct under a loupe and make the perfect backdrop for the Garnets. Now closed to collecting, this is a sad loss to collectors, but the closure ensures value in the specimens that were recovered, like this one! A particularly sparkling, gemlike example of this classic garnet find, which came out in many pockets over decades at this now-closed asbestos quarry. While there is much material on the market, this is an unusual one that simply does not look like all the rest. The garnets look like nothing so much as glass art, ridiculously gemmy and lustrous. The crystals themselves are small, 1-3 mm, but there are a lot of them. It is hard to convey in video and photography how sparkly the human eye finds this - it is something different than you normally see in Jeffrey garnets for that reason.
