Cuprite from the Red Dome mine is justifiably famous in mineral circles, and collecting here is now forbidden, so there will be no more production. As a working gold mine, they have decided to not allow specimen collection, and the pieces that did come out through mine geologists and surveyors in the past are all there will be. Most Red Dome cuprite consists of intergrown masses, almost rounded in style, and with little in the way of classic crystal shape to them. This, however, is a relatively huge elongated crystal to 3.5 cm, perched at the edge of a massive matrix. It is front and center on display, and it GLOWS when backlit, a deep cherry red color. While there are bigger, smaller, and matrix pieces with small crystals (on big ugly rocks in my opinion), this is somewhat unique as a presentation miniature amongst all others. It displays, with that large face looking out at you, vertically and dramatically like no other I have seen (and I have been watching these since the late 1990s). ex James Zigras collection.
