Epidote
This is a remarkable Epidote crystal showing highly elongated growth along one axis, from a small find in far-northern Burma, nearly 20 years ago. Although Epidote is not often considered one of the sexier minerals from Burma, if people have even seen any, this one would excel from ANY location. It was long kept in the Larson Burma collection for the textbook perfection and "precision machined" style of crystallography. Bill told me he paid nearly $5k in Burma, himself, as by the early 2000s anything unusual was by definition expensive, after they learned what Bill wanted from his earlier trips. This pocket remains a special find, and the crystal is simply unlike Epidote from any other location. It is, the best mark of any mineral specimen, unique to a time and place. Note also that the main crystal is complete, pristine, and looks just as good on the front and the back. With backlighting, it has some translucency. This is the only Epidote of this caliber kept in the collection of approximately 1000 Burmese specimens, built between the late 1980s and 2008.
