Fluorite
Water clear Fluorites from Dalnegorsk are classics of 1980s-1990s production and legendary today, and this is a great small cabinet example. Numerous, totally transparent and colorless Fluorite crystals display prominently on this piece and their shape ranges from perfect cubes to elongate rectangular "prisms". Their clarity renders them almost invisible on the piece and it's the tan colored matrix beneath and their incredible luster that gives them away. The crystals range in size from 5 mm to 2 cm in maximum dimension and they have razor sharp edges and faces with a few crystals showing slight octahedral modifications. It appears that there are two generations of growth with the first generation incorporating some of the tan colored clay that serve as phantoms within the later generation of clear Fluorite. Obvious stepped growth is visible in some of the crystals and create angular geometric forms. A few crystals show some trivial corners missing (not sure if that is damage or growth defect), but otherwise in excellent condition and it looks sharp in any case. This is a very fine small cabinet specimen from Dalnegorsk of a quality not seen today. Scott Rudolph collection.
