Aurichalcite with Calcite$950.00

Wire transfers available, to set up
Aurichalcite provides a beautiful blue matrix for both aurichalcite-included disclike calcites and a later generation of white calcite perched atop. A New Mexico classic, these curvaceous plates of intergrown calcite and aurichalcite are something special and unique, sometimes misattributed to the more famous Kelly Mine. They are in fact the same orebody, and not far apart. The specimen here is a fine small cabinet size. A thin layer of matrix hosts a swirling, water-like surface of aqua-colored aurichalcite crystals on which stand unusual vertical forms of colorless calcites for a dramatic appearance. This is a very aesthetic example of the rare combination! The Graphic-Waldo mine is currently owned by ASARCO - the American Smelting and Refining Co., a subsidiary of Grupo Mexico. Any specimens such as this are undoubtedly very old, and we have seen some dated to the 1960s-1970s. NOTE: This mine is on private property. Any trespassing will be prosecuted. This specimen came previously from the Chris Cowan collection. Chris and Dave Stoudt, the current owner, spent decades building their local New Mexico collections, so this is a good provenance from the best state-focused collectors out there.
