Sharp crystallized silver to 4 cm, curling up from a massive ore base, makes this a superb specimen for the size class of this famous find from the late 1960s. The specimen is very robust, and the silver crystals are thick and not easily bent. They are all spinel-twinned crystals. This is a famous discovery from a mine that has produced specimen silver periodically since the late 1800s, although each pocket has been a bit different in style. A specimen like this, a well balanced large miniature with fine display, is somewhat uncommon now. This was in a well-known and fine silver collection of John Durkos (in Ontario, Canada), which was later purchased by Bob Hauck of New Jersey (Bob is one of the founders of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum as well). We bought his own large silver collection in 2012, and sold this to David Stoudt at the time, so it has not been on market since.
