From the great locality of Tsumeb, we have seen hundreds and probably thousands of smithsonite specimens (look online, you will see also!), but some styles and shapes stand out among the crowd as truly rare, even for this location which produced world's best of species crystals. These elongated, sharp crystals reach to 2 cm, and represent the rarest form of smithsonite crystallization worldwide: elongated scalenohedral-like crystals with shape and size unlike other localities. The color is a pleasing, distinct pastel pink, due to cobalt inclusions in parts per million. This is an exceptional example of the material in size and aesthetic display. It does have some minor damaged crystals here and there mixed in with the intact points, which you have to look closely to spot (and the price reflects this as a discount, although it is still a beautiful and showy specimen). This old specimen is probably from the 1960s or 1970s. It comes with a custom lucite base. We purchased it long ago from the collection of Marshall Sussman (probably in the late 1990s), sold it to a dealer who sold it to Richard Rossi, and got it back recently.
