Galena
For some reason, truly fine galena crystals are rare from Tsumeb. This is a substantial group of cuboctahedral Galena crystals to 2cm from Tsumeb. Satin metallic lustered Galena crystals displaying dominant octahedral faces modified by the cube dominate this small cabinet piece. Nearly two dozen Galena crystals are mounded nicely upon the rock and sulfide matrix. Some Galena crystals are more isolated than others and all of them create a commanding Tsumeb Galena specimen! There is some minor damage and contacting to the crystals on one end which would actually constitute the base of the specimen, the bottom as shown. Ex Carlton Davis collection (Carlton was a truly amazing old mineral collector who worked at Ward's Science Establishment after WWII and got both a young Bill Pinch and a young Rob Lavinsky started on rarities and thumbnails. In his retirement, he was a thumbnail collector in Columbus, Ohio). This specimen was sold to Larry Conklin in 1988 with Carlton's miniatures collection, and then sold to Rob Lavinsky in the 1990's, and has travelled around the world and back since that time (the old Arkenstone label dates it to my hands at my old University of California campus PO Box, in 1996-1997 - Rob).
