Axinite-(Fe)
Likely mined during the famous finds of the 1980s-90s, this excellent Axinite is from the remote mining district at Puiva Mount in the Prepolar Urals. Wonderfully sharp, gemmy, and lustrous, the Axinite crystal has a superb clove-brown color. On top of that, the subtle, stepped features of the surface add greatly to the aesthetics because of the reflectivity of the glassy surfaces. Puiva Axinites from this extraordinary alpine-cleft deposit set the world-wide standard for the species by virtue of these very characteristics. They were gone from the market shortly after, and haven't come out since that time. #6555 in Kay's collection, it was acquired by her in 1995. This is one of the finest quality examples in the large miniature size, I have seen ever - and in particular in recent years. The combination of color, luster, gemminess, is rare. Featured in the book Collecting Classics: The Legacy of Kay Robertson (Mineralogical Record, May 2025) on page 58.
