A single, large, divergent spray of Berthierite constitutes this impressive piece from the Herja Mine in Romania. The spray itself measures 11.2cm in maximum dimension and consists of a large, tightly packed, divergent spray of acicular crystals that display a handsome and subdued peacock iridescence. The Herja Mine has produced the world's best and largest Berthierite crystals with this group being in the top end of the size category and was probably part of the early finds in the 1960's. Berthierite is an uncommon iron-antimony sulfosalt and this is an excellent example of the species! This is a major example of the species, and luckily also happens to be beautiful. It was purchased first from a European dealer at Tucson in the 1990's, though by then had already been in a collection. An important rarity and metallic specimen.
