Chalcopyrite
A stunning example of rainbow iridescent chalcopyrite from China, with flattened crystals sitting close to matrix and reflecting at all angles from a 2017 find. As noted in the other listing in this update, the Baisha Copper Mine in China has produced some of the most colorful and most intense iridescent pyrite compared to any worldwide locality. The purples, blues and yellows are very intense and form concentric, irregular rings of color on every surface of this specimen! The chalcopyrite is composed of hundreds of small (<0.2-2mm), highly intergrown crystals that cover most of the matrix. There are some isolated crystals and small clusters of translucent, off-white calcite locally. A beautiful display piece that comes with an engraved base.
