Fluorapatite
From the so-called Harvard Quarry (apparently because so many specimens went to Harvard and so many Harvard mineralogists came to the mine in the turn of the 1900s), this is a spectacular large thumbnail specimen of very colorful purple apatite. For whatever reasons, Maine produces/produced great purple apatite, when the color is rather rare from anywhere else. These historic USA specimens are now highly desired, and seldom for sale out of old collections. This was a keystone piece in the East Coast suite of the Flynn collection. It is unusually large, robust, colorful, and space-filling whereas most that come available look more like shards and singles than clusters of this size. Purchased by Flynn's thumbnail mentor Ernie Schlichter, in 1983, from Maine miner Jim Mann.
