Description

A stunning ghostly white Whewellite crystal perched on a couple shards of matrix from the famous find in vein Bt17B20, 20th level of Uranium Mine No. 19, in 1984 (yes, we know just by looking at it - these are amazing and well documented!). Crystals like this from this find were excellent for the species. This lovely toenail (large thumbnail) specimen is dominated by a white, sharply formed, lustrous, 3.1 cm, monoclinic crystal of Whewellite and it is accompanied by two smaller crystals intergrown with the two small shards of dark, contrasting matrix. The textbook crystal form, translucent nature and beautiful way it sits on the matrix makes it a very aesthetic and desirable thumbnail of this calcium oxalate. From the collection of East Coast competitive collector, Marilyn Dodge, and shown in her thumbnail exhibits at AFMS shows in the 1980s.
