Prehnite Cast After Anhydrite With Calcite
Multiple, well formed fingers of very lustrous and translucent, light apple-green prehnite to 4 cm in length are themselves highlighted by a lustrous and translucent, doubly-terminated, colorless calcite crystal (4 cm in length). The bottom face clearly exhibits example of hollow casts that were once anhydrite. The front shows stalactite-looking prehnites (actually they are cast epimorphs, giving that illusion), splaying out in all directions for a very 3-dimensional impact. Once again there is no damage in evidence, and no repair! The piece looks good upside down too, from the top photo shown - you can see the close-up which shows off the intergrown prehnites in the lower photo panel. A stunning and dramatic specimen, this is perhaps our best cabinet piece and is worthy of any of the major museums preserving American treasures of this caliber. It is one of the finest large examples from this find.
