Rhodochrosite with Schorl
Rarely do we see rhodochrosite from Pakistan! In fact, rhodochrosite usually forms in large metal mines and rarely in gem deposits of the type known as pegmatites, which are what also produces all those famous Pakistani gem crystals (topaz, tourmaline, etc.). Here is a complete-all-around, somewhat oddly shaped crystal, formed hanging off of a doubly-terminated schorl tourmaline crystal! The whole thing is a floater, with both crystals complete. It is a truly bizarre and unexpected pegmatite specimen! Please note the crystal is not 2 cm thick - that dimension gives the total depth of the piece which is mainly due to the schorl, rather. Like other examples from the find, the rhodochrosite crystals tend to be 3-4 mm thick. Found in 2022.
