Mimetite
A riveting, intense yellow-orange Mimetite miniature, from this important and one-time-only 1969 find at the Congreso-Leon Mine in Mexico. This Mexican Mimetite discovery was unique and now legendary and this piece is one of the exceptional miniatures from that find! It has large, yellow, glistening balls of Mimetite mounded up everywhere that transition from 1 to 2mm ones on the bottom that billow upward to 5mm on the front that comprise botryoids to one centimeter. The piece is complete all around and is about the best color one will ever see in this material. Some larger flashes within the botryoids are actually 2 to 3mm Calcites that were incorporated into the Mimetite balls during growth. It is catalogued as number 2630 from Jack Halpern's collection and is also noted on the hand-written portion of his label. A ONCE IN A LIFETIME FIND, never repeated, since 1969. These remain classics, and unique specimens compared to others of the species. Quality today is determined by the saturation of color and the sparkliness of the lustrous surface (or not) - both features that are in top form, here. Comes with custom lucite base for display. Featured in the book Addicted to Beauty: The Legacy of Jack Halpern (Mineralogical Record, March 2025) on page 113, fig. 108.
