Description
A rare and excellent old-time Calcite from the famous iron mines of Cumbria. This sharp, attractive cluster is composed of gemmy to translucent scalenohedrons with excellent luster and the sharp, fine striations that Egremont Calcites are renowned for. Regrettably, one of the smaller Calcites has a broken termination, but with the color and luster being so uniform, it is barely noticeable. Overall, the aesthetics and quality are outstanding for this classic English Calcite. Originally, this piece came through the well-known dealers N. Boubee (1806-1862, see: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/labels.asp?colid=216) and Lee Shale (1950s) before ending up with Kay.
