This gorgeous competitive thumbnail specimen is important beyond its first look and features an electric blue and sharp crystal of azurite perched on a velvety malachite ball. Azurite is of course all too common in "small specimens" that are not all necessarily fine thumbnails of a high quality. And, we have seen so many fine azurite thumbnails from Tsumeb or Milpillas, that occasionally you just wish something from another locality could compete well as a competitive thumbnail specimen and give you the extra points for rarity and locality -- this one can! This stands out in every regard for quality, impact, color and aesthetics, rarity of location, and condition. It is a special style found in the 1930s, and was in the Dick Morris collection (Phoenix) until 2002, when he sold it to copper thumbnail specialists Roland and Kathy Sherman, in the LA area. They held it for some years before selling their copper suite to me, and then I sold this to Jim Houran. He only collected VERY special USA thumbnails in his most recent collection, and this special piece, for where it is from and aesthetics both, stood out. Also, it is a full-sized, large thumbnail specimen. This is from the famed best-of USA-specific thumbnail collection of Jim Houran, sold in entirety to Kyle Kevorkian some years ago.
