Perovskite with Clinochlore
This is a fantastic specimen of Perovskite with textbook crystal habit from the Kusinsk Fe-Ti-V-Deposit in Russia. The huge Perovskite crystal measures 3.6 x 3.1 cm across the top and is essentially a perfect cube with sharp edges and faces. One corner may be slightly compromised but that looks like a crystal growth issue rather than a ding. The stately Perovskite is embedded in a rich green platy aggregates of Clinochlore. Perovskite is a calcium-titanium oxide and Clinochlore is a magnesium-aluminum silicate of the Chlorite Group. This is actually a great specimen for Clinochlore as well, given the large bladed aggregates and the outstanding rich green color! A great combination specimen. An old K. P. Hammond label indicating that the piece was found in 1991 (he was a notorious wheeler-dealer of a mineral collector, using his post in the British consular service to trade minerals while overseas in all kinds of crazy places).
