Fluorite With Strong Secondary Growth
This fluorite cube exhibits both hopper and stepped growth and is lustrous and translucent with a yellowish core and variegated purple edges. In other words, it is REALLY complex and interesting! A few glassy and gemmy, light amber colored calcite crystals, to 9 mm across are aesthetically perched on the fluorite crystal. The sharp secondary growth at the rim is highly unusual, especially in that it is complete all around, like walls around a prison yard. Ross notes how unusual this is on his label. It is difficult to convey in photos, though. Amidst all the other fluorite we see from this district, few have such interesting surface features. Mined June 1994 from the Poe pod. RCL1265.
