Spessartine, Quartz (Var: Smoky Quartz), Feldspar Group
At over 12 pounds, and just about a foot in length, this is a huge garnet plate. It is, amazingly, pristine. This is because it was very carefully collected by the mine owner, from whom I obtained it. It has very sharp, translucent smoky quartz crystals to 4 cm, on top of two generations of feldspar crystals (most of them a nice contrasting white color). And, the highlight is the liberal topping of gemmy, jewel-like spessartine garnets sprinkled atop.
