Fluorite (fluorescent) with Dolomite- illustrated
An old classic fluorite from Germany! Gemmy and lustrous, these intergrown golden Fluorite cubes create a very fine, cabinet-sized plate from this well-known, and old, Fluorite mine. The crystals average about 4 cm across with faces of 1 to 1.4 cm in size that stick out like cityscape growths, and they are virtually pristine. The Fluorites have sharp phantoms defined by dark micro-inclusions, and the whole the piece is nicely accented with mm-size oxide-tinted Dolomites. Good, bluish-purple fluorescence. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). This is a choice, and quite aesthetic, large plate. This is prominently illustrated in the recent 64-page article on Kay in Mineralien Welt (6-2017).
