Quartz (Etched)
These highly unusual, surreally sculpted quartz crystals formed as a result of dissolution effects in a pocket, where a sharp crystal was later exposed to new hot fluids that removed molecules from the quartz bit by bit, to create these bizarre surface effects (this is different from etching, as we normally know that term). Normally, the result would be a mushy mess of quartz with little collector appeal, but somehow in this case, in this pocket, the result was strangely beautiful crystals that look like fractal geometry up close, with mesmerizing subtle patterns and gothic forms. This was one of the best in the size range and one of the best for quality overall, which I bought at the time from dealer Herb Obodda, and sold to quartz collector Rick Hottel. I have seen others since, with more or lesser degrees of dissolution effect, none of which was as beautiful as this particular pocket from now about a decade ago (circa 2005). NOTE: MORE GEMMY AND SPARKLY IN PERSON! It is extremely hard to photo these crystals.
