Fluorite (complex crystal)
There are many Fluorites of various sizes that originate from the Erongo Region, but few that have the character of this one! This is an excellent and showy, small cabinet Fluorite displaying gorgeous, very colorful, complex zoning. The piece is completely transparent except for the very central core are that is translucent to almost opaque. The core area of the crystal consists of a near perfect purple-black cube that is surrounded by a rich emerald green phantom that exhibits a rich, emerald-green outer zone. This zone is then surrounded by a few, thinner bright green zones followed by a pale blue-green zone and finally a rich blue rim! A very old and rare style from this important location. The large crystal with the amazing zones measures 3.7 cm across and is a cube with lustrous, super clear faces modified by large octahedral faces that show a myriad of tiny growth features resulting in a slightly rough textured, yet transparent to translucent appearance. A small cluster of smaller Fluorite crystals are adjacent to the larger one. Pristine and fine! It is much better in person as the combination of rich color and gemminess inside is hard to capture. From the noted Namibian collection we bought in 2019, of Shields and Frances Flynn.
