Carnallite
This oddity is a HUGE, GEMMY, pristine crystal of carnallite, a rare halide, from one of the classic old localities for hte species. The oldfashioned glass vial is sealed with a cork at the bottom to protect the crystal, on which is written the locality information. The mineral is stable in most non-humid environments, as much as any hydrated mineral - it is tempting for me thus to remove it from the glass. But, its a pretty neat historical piece, as well as a fine example of a rarity, so I left it in (though again, it could be removed if desired by peeling back the old cork or breaking the glass gently). 4 x 2.7 x 1.3 cm
