Calcite
Calcites from Egremont, England are true mineral classics, and they are highly sought-after by collectors worldwide. This excellent cluster features two scalenohedrons (or, as Kay put it, hexagonal prisms modified by scalenohedron and rhomb), each over 3.4 cm. The crystals are gemmy, superbly formed, and their luster ranges from glassy to silky. They even have a very slight Hematite tint to them, which is a hallmark of these famous Calcites. This fine, highly representative, old-time piece is complete-all-around and is nearly pristine, with just the tiniest bit of a contact in back of only one small crystal. Likely mined in the 1800s, this early Kay piece, #693, was acquired in a trade by 1960. This is one of the prettier miniatures of this classic style, that we have seen on the market in recent years. It is competitive-level in the size class.
