Phosphophyllite (Type Locality)
The Hagendorf North Pegmatite in Bavaria, Germany is the Type Locality for Phosphophyllite. This is a nice cluster of light blue Phosphophyllites that are lustrous, gemmy, well-formed, and reach up to 3-4 mm in size. The cluster is nestled in a Mica and Quartz matrix. Phosphophyllite was discovered in 1920, and this piece most certainly dates back to the early 1900's. Although not one of the famous Bolivian specimens, this is a classic Phospho from the Type Locality! The area is split into two pegmatites (north and south), with the north pegmatite being the least famous of the two. This quarry closed in 1937.
