Lazurite Pseudo. After Muscovite
A fine, aesthetic Lazurite specimen from the Type Locality: Sar-e Sang, Afghanistan. There are two sharp and lustrous blue-violet Lazurite crystals perched atop contrasting white marble matrix, with larger Lazurites within the marble. However, these crystals are replacements (pseudomorphs) after Muscovite mica: the most prominent Lazurite crystal is 2.5 cm across, and it retains the sharp hexagonal form of the original Muscovite that it pseudomorphed. A beautiful, balanced specimen with the TOP azure blue color you could ever want in this "stone of kings" from the same locality as produced it in biblical times.
