Hematite
This is a superb hematite specimen from the long closed Rio Marina iron mine on Elba. The mirror-bright luster makes it top caliber already but moreover the discrete, euhedral, black, crystals, to 3.0 cm across, are separated by thin, quartz, septae. Isolated crystals, and by quartz crystals no less, are very uncommon! This specimen would be great from any hematite locality, but from Elba, it is world class. Remarkably, this oldtime specimen is nearly pristine! 7.5 x 5.7 x 3.6 cm
