Copper
A remarkable large crystal embedded in matrix of calcite, quartz, prehnite, and epidote. Not complete all around, but nevertheless extremely dramatic from the front display face as you see this gutwrenchingly huge crystal staring back at you. This is a piece that came with no label and after showing it around Tucson was thought to be from a find of 1991 (or thereabouts) which was released at the Cincinnati in that year - I still remember seeing the case full of them when I was doing shows in Ohio. However, I found recently that a previous owner bought it back in 1967 so it clearly is NOT from that famous and more recent find. However, I think the similarity is good indication that it IS from the same mining area, although it would now have to date to the late 1800s or early 1900s, I imagine (when the mines were producing). Weight=860-plus grams. 8 x 8 x 6 cm
