Mimetite (Type Locality, early 1800's)
A Holy Grail of collecting. From the Type Locality in the Erzgebirge, Saxony, Germany, this thumbnail was found in the early 1800's. It is well-representative of this important location. It is the classic butterscotch color, of HUGE size, good waxy luster, and it has a nice termination. There is minor contacting on the crystal, but overall it is mostly complete. Mimetites from Johanngeorgenstadt are simply hard to find, no matter what their size, and make prized specimens. This is a competitive-level example of the find as a thumbnail, and they are unique and immediately recognizable among all the world's mimetites to this day.
