Gaudefroyite
A fine thumbnail cluster of gaudefroyite from the Kalahari Manganese Field of South Africa! This cluster consists of no less than a dozen, very sharp, very well- formed, jet-black crystals to 2.1 cm displaying good luster. Crystals with well developed prism faces and pyramidal terminations, a few are doubly terminated and a few are incomplete. Very minor contacting locally from previously attached crystals. Gaudefroyite is an uncommon calcium-manganese borate-carbonate hydroxide and this locality has produced the best of species and this is a great example. Ex. Dr. Francesco Bedogne collection with label. Unusually robust in this size, it is impressive and three-dimensional.
