Liroconite

Liroconite, collected in the 1840's, is one of the Holy Grails of mineral collectors. Cabinet-sized specimens are almost unheard-of. This is a colorful, display-worthy and exceptionally rich specimen! An orange-brown rock matrix is host to numerous protected pockets containing rich teal-blue Liroconite crystals up to 6 cm in size. Liroconite is one of those ultra-colorful copper minerals and only occurs at a handful of localities in the world with Cornwall being the premier locality - by far. After nearly 200 years, you can easily imagine that few are available on the market, mostly only as old collections are recycled. Most larger specimens have long since been trimmed into smaller pieces to sell to collectors over time. The Liroconite crystals in every vug (pocket) here are well-formed, incredibly lustrous with just an intense teal blue color! Crystals are transparent to translucent, lightly striated, flattened diamond shapes that are somewhat isolated in their clusters, and overall the visible richness on this piece is astonishing. One of the few cabinet sized pieces we have seen for sale. Ever.
