Pyrite on Pyrite
Pyrite from Peru is common of course, but this one is unique and was from a small pocket with a limited number of pieces that came out from the Huanzala Mine in the 1980s. A very artistic grouping showing the top portions of seven Pyrite crystals comprise a plate 3 inches across. The Pyrites are dominated by the pyritohedron with modifications and they look like they have been sprayed with gold glitter! To add to the attractiveness of the piece, the modified faces are brighter and the outline of these modifications are sharply demarcated triangular zones that are singularly lustrous for exceptional reflective and textural contrast. The piece is contacted only on the back and the sides otherwise no damage to the display face. Overall, one of the most unique pyrite specimens you will see, and just plain pretty.
