Schorl, Feldspar Group
This unusual yet dramatic schorl was repeatedly bent by tectonic movements as it grew in the pocket. The luster combined with the tension release lines give it a "cats eye" or tiger's eye effect. Bent tourmalines are not common but, when found, elicit oohs and ahs from collectors. I have seen them from several places, but for some reason I cannot think of a good bent schorl amongst them, at all. This one carries it to an extreme and yet still is balanced enough to stand upright on its own. very interesting and unusual piece! 6.6 x 3.3 x 2.7 cm This Photo was Mindat.org Photo of the Day - 12th Dec 2008
