Tyuyamunite
Canary-yellow microcrystals of tyuyamunite richly cover the Carboniferous limestone matrix on this historic, old-time specimen from the Type Locality in Kyrgyzstan. Tyuyamunite was discovered in 1912 and was reported in the St. Petersburg Academy of Russia Bulletin. We believe the old label is from the St. Petersburg Academy and that the Philadelphia Academy acquired this specimen soon thereafter. Certainly prior to World War I and the Bolshevik Revolution. We have never seen a specimen from this very rare locality before and consider it fairly important, scientifically.
