Cinnabar on Dolomite
A robust, columnar, perfect crystal of cinnabar stands 2 cm tall on well-balanced matrix! This particular style, especially in such an isolated gemmy crystal, is uncommon despite the abundance overall of cinnabar specimens. The matrix is a perfect color contrast and all is pristine and complete all around. You could not dream of a better thumbnail of this particular Cinnabar habit if it were to be trimmed off... and as is, a superb large miniature specimen! It is featured on the 1991 Mineralogical Record Cover for volume 22 #2, Mar/Apr 91. A cover piece! Pricey, perhaps, but superb. Joe Budd Photos.
