Fluorite
I think that the yellow fluorites from the Hilton Mine are the world's finest for intensity and luster combined, with apologies to Illinois. In this case limestone is the matrix for a plate of penetration-twinned, glassy and gemmy, golden-honey colored crystals to 2 cm across. This was one of the larger and finer specimens mined in underground expeditions by the Greenbanks and their friends over several expeditions into these old workings in the early 1970s and late 1960s. It comes from a cavity in the Dow Scar Vein, 200 yards from the portal of the Hilton Mine. Collected in 1970 by Lindsay Greenbank. For the size and condition, this is a remarkable plate of fluorites.
