Quartz Var. Amethyst
I was fascinated by this specimen the last time I was in Melbourne, Australia, and saw an amethyst plate like this sitting in an important collection of Aussie classics and locales. I couldn't believe it was from Australia! But this is indeed from Australia, and was in Robert Sielecki's personal collection until we made an exchange. I think, for sheer size and color, it is an important piece (especially for an Aussie museum... hint, hint...). It looks like large, fat Bolivian-quality amethyst crystals, but on a nice matrix. The piece is nearly pristine and is not repaired. It glows like "grape juice" in a case. A MAJOR LOCALITY SPECIMEN! Joe Budd photos.
