Rhodonite
Rhodonite from the San Martin mine is deservedly famous, and the specimens are highly desirable when they come with good color and sharp crystals like this piece. This is a style with robust, deep pink-red crystals from finds of 1991 and consists of sharp, intense pink, bladed Rhodonite crystals to 2.5 cm in length and 1.5 cm across in a large, moderately tight cluster. The sheer impact of the color in a display case is noticeable from across the room! The color is more of a red-pink and is at the top of the color scale for the material as much of what you see on the market, when available, is more pink. The luster of this piece is also about as good it gets for this material. Mining efforts at this locality stopped years ago and originally came from a trickle of pockets that were mined by hand. Later finds were of a different style in 1998 and in the early 2000s. This is a superb and beautiful specimen with significance for the finds here and for the species in general. Formerly exhibited in the Zhejiang Museum in Hangzhou, China.
