Baryte
Baryte from the Elk Creek locality is now considered an American Classic - in fact, it is one of the approximately 40 chapters in the book, American Mineral Treasures. These crystals have a very unique habit, luster, and color combination to them nothing else like it in the world. This particular specimen came out in the 1980s and should be considered of exceptionally high quality for the locality. It is big, robust, entirely gemmy, and has a sharp termination (many thick crystals etch away at the tips). This specimen was one of the several dozen pieces exhibited in the incredible American Treasures exhibit at Tucson of 2008, as photo-documented in the Mineralogical Record on page 212 of the Tucson report issue - which shows a photo of each of the 40 cases (May-June 08). It comes with the official AMT commemorative label proving it was in the showcase, as well. Also Ex. Dr. Edward E. David Collection. Weighs 108 grams.
