Corundum (Var: Ruby)
Indian rubies of this impressive size are very uncommon. This is one large ruby, weighing 583 grams or nearly 1.3 pounds. It is a complete, doubly-terminated floater with good luster and superb, saturated color of pigeon's blood red. The hexagonal form is well-developed but elegant for such a large crystal, in that it tapers gently from the center to the terminations. The crystal looks like it has many stacked layers. It is a complete floater, intact all around even on the terminations. Moderate red fluorescence.
