Galena with Sphalerite
Dominated by one large modified cubic to cubo-octahedral Galena crystal reaching 2.7 cm across, this really fresh and bright metallic blue-grey crystal comes from the famous mining town of Stríbro which is named from the Czech word for silver which was historically mined there from the 12th century. Two other partial crystals protrude from two sides around the base of the specimen and small areas of small Quartz crystals encrust some crystal surfaces. Minor Sphalerite also occurs in association as sparse, perfect, sub-mm scale glossy brown individual crystals on the surface of the main Galena crystal. Ex Hans Engelbrecht Collection, no. 1118. Although no date of acquisition is recorded, these superb Galena crystals are believed to have been recovered during the early 1970s and are some of the finest Galena crystals known from Czechia. The main crystal has just the very slightest of chipping which is only visible under magnification, otherwise it is in superb condition and displaying excellent crystal surfaces.
