Fluorite with Chalcopyrite
A gorgeous floater grouping of rosy purple color zoned cubic fluorite crystals, these accented nicely with small crystals of gold and chalcopyrite. This is in very good condition with just slight and very minimal micro-damage present. Crystallized calcite is present on the backside of the piece which is completely naturally crystallized. Absolutely gorgeous when lit from behind. The Denton Mine in Hardin County, Illinois was part of the Illinois Kentucky Fluorspar District, a major source of fluorite in the United States during the 20th century. The mine produced fluorite along with associated minerals such as calcite, galena, and sphalerite from vein deposits hosted in limestone. Operations were carried out by underground methods and contributed to the regions reputation as an important supplier of fluorspar for the steel and chemical industries. Today the mine is inactive but remains known among mineral collectors for colorful fluorite specimens from southern Illinois.
