Boleite
Boleite is an extremely rare and fascinating mineral species with crystals always extremely popular due to their intense deep blue colour, balanced shape and complex chemistry including silver, lead, copper, potassium and chlorine. Although known in crystals from a few dispersed localities around the world their quality never rivals the undisputed finest from a small area of mines in the Boleo District, Mun. de Mulegé, Baja California, Mexico where most of the specimens seen in collections today came out during the 1970s from Amelia mine. Miniature in size, this lovely matrix specimen features one main, well-formed deep blue cubic crystal reaching 6 mm on edge, another somewhat distorted cubic crystal to 3 mm on edge and several other microcrystals. The classic pale orange clay matrix which is often prone to desiccation and cracking looks in very good condition and may well have been stabilized as was typical, but if so we have no record of this. A fine specimen of this now difficult to obtain Mexican classic.
