When it comes to impressive large crystallized aggregates of Pyromorphite the mines in the Bad Ems District in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany certainly turn up trumps. Friedrichssegen mine is one of the most famous localities, being renowned for a unique form, combining an unusual pale brown colour with intensely 'wet' resinous lustre and long dendrite-like branching masses of thick hexagonal prisms. This magnificent large display specimen is almost entirely Pyromorphite, producing a hefty mass of almost 1 kg. Pyromorphite is though a soft and brittle mineral, so it its remarkable how wonderfully intact this is, sculptural in its form and statuseque. Individually, the crystals reach over 1 cm in length, but are often gently overlapping as to make their full length difficult to determine. Individual dendrites composed of stacked prismatic crystals reach 3 to 4 cm in length. A world class Pyromorphite from a world famous occurrence. Ex Hans Engelbrecht Collection, no. 4525, acquired by him in 1993.
